Introduction
Welcome to my first ever post on my blog! I am excited to do this and I hope I can keep up with it, at least for a while (till I finish my thesis 😅). Actually, this “blog” started because of it - my professor suggested that I should write a blog about how I am doing with my thesis. What are my thoughts and decisions, what I am learning, what I am struggling with, etc. I thought it was a great idea, so here I am. I hope you enjoy reading my posts and that you find them helpful. I will try to keep them as informative as possible. There are some other things I am not sure about yet, like how often I will post, what I will write about, etc. But I will figure it out as I go. I like the idea of writing it more in a way of a diary, then a formal developer blog. As I am not on that level yet🚀. As my grandpa says, “Work will tell.”
Creation of this blog
To make it more interesting, from the start, I will write about process of creating this blog. At first I was writing my diaries into a markdown files and uploading them to my thesis repo. Which is and was lame. So I decided to create a blog.
I got inspired by this video from a guy that I watch from time to time as he is a developer in my age range and it is easy to relate. He used astro for the creation of his blog, so I decided to use it too. It was really easy to set up and I am mostly happy with the result that I got. Basic steps that I took ⬇️
- Downloaded pnpm
- I picked some theme / template from the official astro site
- Cloned the repo (not steal cloooned) it is free real-estate
- Added my info Easy right? The tricky part came with hosting. As I never done that before I looked into some options. My good friend chatGPT had some ideas. AWS was one of them and as I am not yet a FAANG+ engineer, I decided to use the cheapest / free way of hosting it on github. Which was even easier then cloning the repo. The guide they provide is easy to understand and you have it done in couple of minutes. There may be a way to have custom domain together with hosting it on github. But I have not loked at it into further detail as for now I am happy with it being on the internet. Not looking at the accessibility for new readers. Maybe in the future I will take it more serious.
I am still figuring stuff out as what it can do. As I never worked with frontend framework before. Although everything is so easy and nice, I am still struggling to use custom emotes. I hope I will figure it out eventually. As I am a big enjoyer of custom emotes in Slack and basically everywhere.
Conclusion
I would consider it as a work in progress that I will tweak as I go. Change some minor or major stuff. Same with the visual / framework and content itself. I hope you will enjoy reading it as much as I will enjoy writing it.
PS: I will take it with a bit of fun, so don’t take it too seriously. Maybe for my future reputation it would be better if I did not, but…
